Here are some highlights\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b><i>Documents<\/i><\/b> &#8211; this tab in the Students module is like an online file-folder as it allows \u00a0for files to be uploaded and stored online, with the student\u2019s primary record. It\u2019s great for IEPs, 504-plans, or other official files &#8211; written accommodations or otherwise.<\/li>\n<li><b><i>Medical<\/i><\/b> &#8211; this tab in the student record is a tidy way to enter student medical information. For situations where there are special accommodations due to allergies, illness, or physical disabilities, the medical tab can be a clear and helpful way to track the information.<\/li>\n<li><b><i><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/2014\/01\/31\/searchable-student-custom-fields\/\">Custom<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/2013\/05\/02\/new-module-based-custom-fields\/\">Fields<\/a><\/i><\/b> &#8211; this particular section of the student records is super-flexible, so it can be used as a way to make notes on a file. For example, students\u2019 record can have custom fields areas for writing out necessary accommodations, or leaving notes for other teachers about how to work with a student<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/2013\/09\/20\/private-messaging-vs-mass-messaging\/\"><b><i><b><i>Private Messaging<\/i><\/b> <\/i><\/b><\/a>&#8211; As a communication system for special education teams, Private Messaging is a very powerful tool. It\u2019s easy to have just one thread for each student\u2019s group of support people. Parents and students can also be included in their special education threads, if needed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Grading<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Because <a href=\"www.quickschools.com\">QuickSchools<\/a> is so flexible, there are quite a few different ways of going about managing grades are reports for special education classes. Here\u2019s some information on the different features in the system that might be helpful.<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/2013\/07\/09\/setting-up-subjects-and-enrollment\/\"><b><i>Setup Subjects<\/i><\/b><\/a> &#8211; Even if special education courses are supplemental, or don\u2019t appear on the report card, they can still be setup in Subject Setup and have grades, attendance, and enrollment tracked like general education courses. For example, Subjects could be created for special education taught by a special education teacher, regular time working separately with in-class aides, and even lunchtime social groups.<\/li>\n<li><b><i><b><i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.quickschools.com\/quickschools\/features\/gradebook\">Gradebook<\/a> Comments<\/i><\/b> <\/i><\/b>&#8211; In the regular <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quickschools.com\/quickschools\/features\/gradebook\">Gradebook<\/a> module, teachers can post \u201cpublic comments\u201d that are visible for parents and students in their online portal. This is a fantastic \u00a0way to keep communication lines open about progress in general and \u00a0special education classes.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/2014\/07\/08\/standards-based-gradebook\/\"><b><i>Standards-Based Gradebook<\/i><\/b><\/a> &#8211; This new <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/2014\/07\/08\/standards-based-gradebook\/\">Gradebook<\/a>\u00a0feature is designed for tracking students\u2019 mastery of various standards. Because these standards are entirely customized, they can be used for tracking success in everything from Common Core to individualized learning goals.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.quickschools.com\/quickschools\/features\/report-card\"><strong><i><i>Report Cards<\/i><\/i><\/strong><\/a> &#8211; Not only is this module great for end-of-term reports, but it\u2019s also very effective for progress reports. Some of our schools, particularly <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/2013\/12\/12\/the-lake-michigan-academy-progress-reports\/\">the ones that focus on special education<\/a>, use this <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/2012\/02\/04\/quickschools-report-card-features\/\">Report Cards<\/a> to send out <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/2013\/12\/12\/the-lake-michigan-academy-progress-reports\/\">frequent updates<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>IEP App Pilot<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Per popular request, we\u2019re working on building a comprehensive new <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.quickschools.com\/category\/app-store\/\">app<\/a> that takes a more holistic approach to managing special education students\u2019 files. It allows for tracking students\u2019 eligibility status, and stores all information for every student in their own file. There are quite a few options for tags. These are&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Initial Evaluation<\/li>\n<li>Team Meeting<\/li>\n<li>Meeting<\/li>\n<li>Plan<\/li>\n<li>Needed Accommodations<\/li>\n<li>Observation<\/li>\n<li>Evaluation<\/li>\n<li>Goal<\/li>\n<li>Milestone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All types of tagged entries also allow for supporting documentation to be attached as files or as links. Entries can even be tagged with a combination of tags too.<\/p>\n<p>While this awesome app is still in development, if you\u2019d like to give it a try, please let us know.
