This is Part 2 of the QuickSchools<\/a> Standards-Based Gradebook (SBG) Tutorial, where we cover the remaining steps 3 and 4. Original post is here:<\/p>\n

Just to recap, here are the 4 steps in using the Standards-Based Gradebook<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. OPTIONAL: Create your library of Standards\n
      \n
    1. Creating Standards Sets<\/li>\n
    2. Adding Standards to Standards Sets<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    3. OPTIONAL: Configure your Standards-Based Gradebook\n
        \n
      1. Configure how the final score is calculated for a particular standard<\/li>\n
      2. Configure how the Overall Grade for a particular subject is calculated based on assessed standards<\/li>\n
      3. Configure the Mastery Levels \/ Grading Scale<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
      4. Start using the Gradebook\n
          \n
        1. Define which standards will be assessed for the particular academic term<\/li>\n
        2. Create assessments by selecting specific standards to test for specific students<\/li>\n
        3. Review how students are performing based on assessed standards (Analytics)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
        4. Generate Report Cards: Report Cards will automatically display assessed standards for each student. The Subject-Based Gradebook also has an \u201cOverall Grade\u201d calculation for the subject, which can be transferred automatically into the report card.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

          We continue with steps 3 and 4 here. For steps 1 and 2, please refer to the original article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

          Step 3: Start using the Gradebook<\/h2>\n

          Once you\u2019re satisfied with the standards and settings per steps 1 and 2, teachers can start using the Standards-Based Gradebook under the \u201cSB Gradebook\u201d menu. Just to re-iterate, if you\u2019re using the Subject-Based Gradebook for a particular subject, you cannot user the numerical (i.e. default) Gradebook for that subject:<\/p>\n

          Getting Started with the Standards-Based Gradebook<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

          So in the Standards-Based Gradebook, after selecting a subject, your student roster should appear. You\u2019ll have several options available to you, and you should do them in order. Here are the steps:<\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Add Standard: Define which standards will be assessed for the particular academic term<\/li>\n
          2. Assessment: Create assessments by selecting specific standards to test for specific students<\/li>\n
          3. Assessment List \/ Run Analysis: Review how students are performing based on assessed standards (Analytics)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Add Standard<\/h3>\n

            Add Standards to the Standards-Based Gradebook<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

            When adding a new standard, you have 2 options. At the top, you can manually create a new standard for this subject. If you go this route, a new Standards Set will be create for this subject, and the standard will be added to it.<\/p>\n

            Alternatively, you can use the bottom section to simply select a standard from the library. Just click into the box, and start typing a few letters from the standard, and a list will appear. You can then select a standard by clicking it from the list.<\/p>\n

            Assessment<\/h3>\n

            Adding an assessment requires several steps summarized below:<\/p>\n

            1. Select Standards and Students to assess<\/li>\n
            2. Enter Assessment Details and Scores<\/li>\n
            3. Review and Save the Gradebook<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              So when you first click on the \u201cAssessment\u201d you\u2019ll see the following below. Simple select the appropriate standards and students to include in this assessment.<\/p>\n

              Once you click \u201cNext >>\u201d, you can enter the Assessment Details and Scores:<\/p>\n

              Evaluate Students in the Standards Assesment<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

              Once you click \u201cSave\u201d, you\u2019ll be taken back to the main Gradebook screen, with the new assessment factored into the performance of each student.<\/p>\n

              Review New Assessments and Save<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

              If you\u2019re satisfied with the change, be sure to click on \u201cSave\u201d, to save the Gradebook.<\/p>\n

              Assessment List<\/h3>\n

              This screen shows you all the assessments<\/p>\n

              Run Analysis<\/h3>\n

              This screen shows you the general performance of the subject, based on standards and students.<\/p>\n

              Step 4: Generate Report Cards<\/h2>\n

              There\u2019s actually nothing additional required here, other than to select an appropriate report card template for your school (per the usual report card configuration). All assessed standards will appear automatically in the student report cards, along with the overall (subject) grade.
