We\u2019ve decided to help you by doing some research on the best ways to get students geared up to take their next step.<\/p>\n<p>In this post we&#8217;ve outlined some techniques such as leadership swaps, discussions on reading body language and team building exercises in addition to a few great links.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#008080;\">Leadership swap<br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#333333;font-weight:normal;\">This is a task recommended\u00a0by Tom Siebold, a writer, consultant and owner of CollegeGrazing.com \u2013 a site to help high school students learn the skills they need to use in college. The aim of the task is to get students to share their experiences with each other and build rapport.\u00a0The activity is as follows:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#333333;\">Divide the class into groups of three.\u00a0 From the list of &#8220;situations&#8221; below, instruct the groups to take turns giving examples of something they have done or witnessed.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">A      creative twist on a situation or issue.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">A      clever improvisation&#8211;&#8220;dancing on your feet&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">A      pleasant surprise<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">An Aha      moment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">Something      that generated a great deal of excitement<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">A      conflict resolved<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">A      breakthrough insight or solution<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">A      really tough situation<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">A      blindside experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#333333;\">A      moving (emotional) situation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#333333;\">This activity should help your students take the time to portray their own leadership skills through examples.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#333333;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.workshopexercises.com\/Leadership.htm\">Read here<\/a> for more exercises of this kind.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#008080;\"><br \/>\nHelping students identify body language<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"color:#333333;\">Young adults need to be aware of the behaviors of the people they communicate with. The following exercise will encourage conversation about how a student would interpret a certain body language expression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#333333;\">Here\u2019s what you need to do \u2013 provide students with the body language expressions listed below, allow them to discuss and then present their thoughts to the class.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#333333;\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When a person plays with change in their pocket while communicating.<\/li>\n<li>When a person rolls their eyes after they hear or say something.<\/li>\n<li>When a person talks with their arms crossed.<\/li>\n<li>When a person refuses to make eye contact while speaking.<\/li>\n<li>When a person rocks or squirms while speaking.<\/li>\n<li>When a person talks to you while invading your personal space.<\/li>\n<li>When a person turns their back on someone as they enter the group.<\/li>\n<li>When a person whispers to another in a group setting.<\/li>\n<li>When a person points a finger or shakes his fist at another person.<\/li>\n<li>When a person slumps their shoulders or looks towards the ground while speaking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color:#008080;\">Learning from Donald Trump<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>Break your class up into two groups or teams and assign the same activity to each group. Activities can include selling a service such as a car wash, or a lemonade stand \u2013 as long as the success is measurable.<\/p>\n<p>Once the task is over, the teams can come together and discuss the successes or failures of each team. The team leader here is given a chance to understand what they did right.
