As we head back into Report Card <\/a>season, we\u2019ve received quite a few requests for help setting up a Behavior\/Work Habits\/Social Growth grading system. In case you\u2019re wondering the same thing, here are two ideas that we like to recommend when this question comes up.<\/p>\n

Idea 1: The No-Credit Behavior Class<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is a nice way to setup a behavior grading system so that appears like a regular class in the student\u2019s record and a teacher\u2019s subject-based grading menu. It\u2019s very convenient, and quite intuitive if you think of behavior\/work\/social skills as being like a subject for students. That said, it does have some drawbacks in that you need to hide the subject in each student\u2019s transcript so that everything looks neat and tidy. If you\u2019d like, you can set up a No-Credit Behavior class like this…<\/p>\n

1. Go to Subjects and make a different Behavior subject for each grade.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Make sure to set the credit hours to 0 \u00a0– so that it\u2019s really \u201cno credit\u201d! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

2. Enroll students<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

3. Set up a Subject-Specific Grading<\/a> Template for the Class.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

For this, first go to Setup Report cards, and scroll all the way to the bottom and click \u201cTurn it on\u201d for Subject Specific Grading Criteria. Then, click the new fourth tab in your Report Cards module.<\/p>\n

Then, we can create a subject-specific criteria template. First click \u201cAdd Template\u201d, then fill in your grading criteria\"\"<\/p>\n

4. Assign the Template to the Class<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Click the subject\u2019s \u201cAssigned Template\u201d line to get a dropdown menu of possible choices<\/p>\n

5. Grade students in Subject-Based Grading.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

When it\u2019s time to draw up transcripts, you will need to hide the subject from each student\u2019s transcript. To do this, go into Transcripts, open up a student\u2019s transcript, mouse over the Behavior, and click. Then, select one of the Hide Subject options from the menu that appears.<\/p>\n

Idea 2: Chat in For Customizations<\/strong><\/p>\n

Of course, we\u2019d be thrilled to do a customization for your report cards, if you would prefer not to use a no-credit subject. There are a ton of ways to do this, but setting up a customization is really seamless if you want space made in each student\u2019s report card for grading behavior\/work\/social skills.
