One of the questions we get asked quite often at QuickSchools<\/a> is, \u201cDo you guys do State Reporting?<\/em><\/strong>\u201d The short answer is \u201cWe can<\/em><\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Every state has its own reporting requirements that change from year to year. We can work with individual schools to get this reporting requirement squared off. As an example, here we discuss our recent state reporting implementation for Pennsylvania called PIMS<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All of the customization discussed below is done by our technical staff, once we receive the reporting requirements from the school.<\/p>\n

STEP 1: Customize a student tab for state required fields:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

As you can see, we can create custom fields in the form of text fields, check boxes, radio buttons and even dropdowns. The dropdowns are especially helpful, if you want to select something descriptive, but output a short code for the report. For example, the dropdown may say \u201cA – Adult\u201d but the state report will only show \u201cA\u201d.<\/p>\n

Once the custom tab is ready, the school can start storing information about the student, which would then be reported to the state. But how do we get the saved student data into a reportable format?<\/p>\n

STEP 2: Customize a report with all state required fields and formatted columns:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The next step is to create a custom report, which will appear in the \u201cReports\u201d module. Clicking \u201cView\u201d will produce an on screen report on your browser, while \u201cExcel\u201d will export to Excel:<\/p>\n

Your state report may require empty fields in specific columns. We can create those as well. Some generated fields (that are not stored in the custom tab) will appear outside the formatted area, and would need to be moved around. Here\u2019s what the browser-based report may look like:<\/p>\n

Once you\u2019re satisfied with the basic report, you can export it to excel and perform further manipulation, to move columns around etc. Excel is the most versatile medium for quick data manipulation, for just this sort of thing. And you can also save your Excel file into other formats, like CSV or Flat Files, depending on the state.<\/p>\n
